The audacity of owning ambiguity stirred something in me. Something that makes me want to follow you even though I know you're figuring it out along the way. Awesome post as always! :)
I get that. I certainly hoped people would read mine. Never thought they would though.
For you though, I have actually read your words. So I know what I am getting into when I see your posts. At least a little. That makes me a little excited when I see a new article (or whatever they call the main posts here on Substack). Of course you are going to have people read your words.
Honestly, the pressure to choose is purely artificial. Much like style, what genre you write is going to be whatever label what to throw on top of it after your writing is already out there. When we look at music, some of the best bands out there now cannot b classified as a single genre. Unless we define genres so narrowly that only that one band fits into it.
If you refuse to treat writing like a job, then what you will need in the moment will come naturally out. It will have the freedom to change as it feels natural to.
